Reaching out to neighbors and friends continues to be an important part of our new sanctuary project. Since early 2008, we have been making personal visits to neighbors to share our sanctuary design and landscaping plans, answer their questions, hear their concerns and, where possible, use their feedback to incorporate changes in the project's design or landscaping. It has been a very fulfilling collaborative process.
We have enjoyed having this special opportunity to meet so many wonderful neighbors and have forged new friendships. We have visited thousands of households and businesses, and we have been gratified with the warm reception and support for the project we have received from the majority of them.
In response to our neighbors' interest in learning more about Sufism Reoriented, in the spring of 2008 we began publishing a newsletter highlighting our activities, providing updates and renderings of our new sanctuary and its proposed landscaping, and sharing biographies of some of our members. This newsletter now goes to most of the residents in our surrounding neighborhood.
The following links will lead you to the brochures and newsletters created as part of our neighborhood outreach program.
Update Since publishing these newsletters and brochures, we've been fortunate to upgrade our planned heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system. The ground-source heat pump system you may read about in these newsletters and brochure is being replaced with an even more efficient system. Like that system, the new one won't require a cooling tower and is quiet. But unlike the other, it will require no excavation and uses even less energy.
