Our New Sanctuary

What Will I See?

With few exceptions, the new church will be veiled from view by a carefully designed glade of ornamental trees. For a person standing across Boulevard Way from the property, the building will be completely screened by trees within six years and mostly screened in three. Only directly opposite the main and fire entrances on Boulevard Way will a person walking or driving by see even a partial view of the building.

Computer-generated renderings of the new church give a true perspective from different vantage points, and two are shown here.

Passersby, whether walking or in their cars, will not see the sanctuary at all, except at its wide, open entrance and fire-access entrance. Only three adjacent neighbors on Warren Road will be able to see even small portions of the sanctuary. The surrounding wall, the design of which has not been finalized, will be artfully designed with step-back areas, street-side flower gardens, and interesting plant treatments.

The church’s round, low form with gently curving domes was inspired by spiritual principles of oneness and unity. One of the world’s finest architectural firms, Philip Johnson / Alan Ritchie, designed the building. The gardens will be landscaped by the internationally acclaimed SWA Group, and neighbors will be welcome to enjoy them for quiet contemplation. This is the view from the grass parking lot.

How Tall Will the Church Be?

The building will be only fourteen feet from the ground to the edge of the roof. At its highest point, the central dome it will only be 33½ feet above ground. This is fully within County code. The average height, including the domes, will be only 17½ feet. This is a modest height for a house of worship.
