Our New Sanctuary

Traffic Demand Management Plan (TDMP) Reduces Traffic

Our new sanctuary will not cause an increase in traffic because our membership is stable and we are only moving one block from our current location.

In 2007 we created and implemented a plan under which nearly half our members committed in writing to walk to worship services in all weather. The remaining members have committed to carpool or take an organized shuttle. The result has been a decrease in traffic to the church when our services are held. This plan confirms that the seventy-four spaces allotted for parking at the new sanctuary are more than adequate.

Contra Costa County code encourages organizations to create "Traffic-Demand Management Plans," or TDMPs. Our current traffic-management plan is identical to the TDMP outlined in our Land Use Permit Application. Our plan has received praise as a model for the future from 511 Contra Costa, the program charged with promoting new ways to reduce vehicle use. 511 Program Manager Lynn Osborn stated, "We believe this project could be a showpiece for Contra Costa County."

Improving Sightlines at the Kinney Drive–Boulevard Way Corner

The majority of our members live in this part of the neighborhood, and we are eager for the safety of this intersection to be improved.

In May of 2011, we decided to move the fence back without waiting to break ground on the project. Just as this improves sightlines for drivers, once our Land Use Application is approved, we will improve the appearance of our frontage all along Boulevard Way by implementing our landscaping plans. These include trees, shrubs, and layered, multi-colored beds of flowers along the sidewalk that will wend around our property.

This photo shows the curve before the fence was moved back in May 2011.

This photo shows the improved sightline now that the fence has been moved back to where the wall will be. The area between the wall and the new sidewalk will be beautifully landscaped.
